HUGO LOUIS POPPER (BOHEMIA, APRIL
21, 1857 – LEIPZIG, NOVEMBER 14, 1910)
He come from
an Austrian family of officers and grew up in Prague. A preference for military
bands was evident early on. However, he broke off his military career and
became a merchant. In 1890 he came to Leipzig and founded his own company in
1891. In 1910 he died in the arms of Hermann Möhle and his friend Hermann
Feurich as a result of “sudden heart failure”. He left behind a wife and six
minor children.
